I found a small fatty tumor and the vet drained it and now it’s back. The 1st vet I went to drained it and charged me 400. The second vet I took him to said that fatty tumors are normal for large, older dogs. And that he sees no reason to remove it.
(He shows no discomfort)

A friend told me that the incidence of cancer in Goldens has risen and eventually 50% will develop some form of cancer. Does anyone have the true facts on this?

If I decide not to get my dog spayed, is the risk of cancer really that high? It just seems pointless to put her through major surgery because she may get cancer in the future. I mean it would be kind of like a woman choosing to get a hysterectomy because she may get cancer in the future. There is a very small chance she would accidentally get pregnant but only because you can never be 100% about anything. As it is, she is always on a leash and we don’t put her in the yard. The only problem I can maybe see is that our two male dogs would fight while she’s in heat, but I doubt that. They’d need raging hormones for that and they just don’t have that anymore.
I am having doubts with her because she’s already a little on the old side. With my male dogs we got them as puppies and had them neutered shortly after they reached maturity. And they are bigger. Our smallest is 15 pounds. They also came from breeders that also showed their dogs and did health screening before breeding. With her, we adopted her and she could be anywhere from 3-5 years old. If she had her teeth cleaned, she could be even older. She’s also most likely a puppymill dog so who knows about her health. As it is, she’s had a cold for 2 months now. Plus she really small. She’s a shih-tzu but weighs only 8 pounds. I’ve had rabbits bigger than her.

My dog is 15 years old and she has two fatty tumors on both her sides. Because of her age the vet recommends we not have them removed. He says she isn’t in pain. I wonder how long is it ok to allow them? They are about the size of a small canteloupe. Is this something that she should be put down for? Is she suffering?

I have been buying natural foods like Inova because they claim that meat meal and bone meal are roadkill, shelter animals and cancer tumors & pus.

IF it’s not true, how come none of the other pet food companies like Alpo that use meat/bone meal have spoken up and disputed this?

Since mast cells are for destroying and attacking invasive parasites, would intentionally giving a dog worms have any beneficial effect in the case of mast cell tumors, where the mast cells have essentially become unstable? Would the introduction of an enemy for them to fight help to stabilize them and focus thier spread?
Does anyone actually know if the effects of giving a dog parasites with mast cell tumors has been studied or observed?

She said we could take him home for a day or two so we could say goodbye but we have to bring him back so that he can be put to sleep. She said it is probably advanced liver cancer causing all the tumors, we don’t want him to suffer but we love him so much and would do anything to save him.

We give her midicine for the arthritus or she couldn’t get up. She has to potty more often now. The vet says the tumors are benign.
